Results of open carpal tunnel release in the short incision techniqueCarpal tunnel syndrome is the most common nerve compression syndrome. The diagnosis is based on anamnestic data and clinical tests. The electrophysiological tests are required to confirm the diagnosis and for the follow-up. Conservative treatment options should be considered before surgical therapy.Among the surgical therapies, the open and endoscopic techniques are competing with each other. In the endoscopic procedure, painful scars are less common. But the risk of nerve and vascular injury compared with the open technique is higher. The higher operating costs also argue against the endoscopic procedure.The results presented in this paper relate to the open technique with a short palmar incision. We followed up 61 patients who were operated on a total of 87 hands. The aim of this study was to compare the results of this surgical technique with results of other procedures such as endoscopic technique and open technique with a long incision. At follow this process proved to be safe and successful. Complications were rare (1%). A painful scar was noted as the only complication. A relapse (1%) was found in all examined hands. The results were estimated by patients with "very satisfied" (85%), "satisfied" 14% and "dissatisfied" 1%.This surgical technique is relatively simple, the results are safe and successful in case of good anatomical knowledge of the surgeon. An extension of the incision is possible. The Operation view is good and the operation costs are low. Painful scars are rare, and the aesthetic result is good.According to the mentioned benefits, n the simplicity of the surgical technique, good results, less complications and low operation costs, we recommend this method as an alternative to long-incision and endoscopic technique.
